FILLED. Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential,
liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing
students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities.
The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities
region—and its rural setting featuring 750 acres of wetlands,
bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove. The
Chief Development Officer (CDO) reports directly to the President
and is the lead professional responsible for all fundraising, board
management, and alumni engagement for Richard Bland College of
William & Mary. The CDO will direct, plan, coordinate, and
implement administrative and operational activities for the
College’s fundraising program, primarily through board engagement
and the coordination of major gift, grant and annual fund
strategies. The CDO will assist the President by serving as the
College’s expert on best practices for fundraising and Foundation
board engagement, while stewarding current philanthropic
relationships. The CDO will develop a robust fundraising plan to
support the strategic goals of the College. The Chief Development
Officer will: • Design, implement and measure a long-range
fundraising plan tied to the strategic needs of the College. •
Supervise and optimally utilize staff, the donor management system,
and all departmental resources, to achieve strategic goals •
Develop, support, and evaluate volunteer staff, including
recruitment and training of those volunteers. • Develop and propose
strategies for improving all components of the development
operation, including determining ongoing relationships with
prospects/donors; recommending specific purpose and level of gift;
identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent
solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out. •
Integrate the administration, faculty, students, and alumni into
development activities where appropriate and effective •
Continuously update and utilize the Foundation/Development website
to achieve strategic goals • Ensure ongoing maintenance and
utilization of a robust donor management system (currently Raiser’s
Edge) • Ensure robust communication with donors, alumni, and all
stakeholders, e.g., coordinate and regularly distribute fundraising
reports • To the extent possible, without sacrificing the priority
fundraising goal, develop programs, events, and activities that
stimulate involvement, interest, and engagement of alumni, donors,
prospective donors, corporations, and foundations. • Coordinate
Foundation Board of Directors commitment in keeping with bylaws and
priority goals. • Initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate, and alter
strategic advancement plans. • Possess interpersonal, analytical,
and organizational skills • Demonstrate excellent written and oral
communication skills • Expand knowledge of laws that impact
charitable giving, personal assets and estates. Minimum
Qualifications • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of
training and experience. • Considerable professional experience in
fundraising, public relations, marketing or a related field, or
progressively responsible professional experience in higher
education development or a related field. • Demonstrated experience
in facilitating major gifts through planned giving instruments. •
Experience developing relationships between colleges and major
donors. • Ability to travel around the region. • Must have a valid
driver’s license. • Demonstrated experience working in and
fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
