Full or Part Time: Full Time Basic Function: The Vice President and
Chief Academic Officer (CAO) provides strategic and operational
leadership for NOVA---s academic programs and ensures that all
academic programming and services reflect the college---s mission,
values, and commitment to equity, excellence, and student success.
This position is responsible for the consistency, quality, and
integrity of academic programs across NOVA---s six campuses, NOVA
Online, and partner concurrent enrollment high schools and other
delivery sites. Working collaboratively with college faculty,
deans, and campus provosts, this position plans, develops,
implements, and evaluates the college---s overall transfer and
technical education curriculum. The Vice President and CAO works
with campus provosts and academic deans to design and deliver an
efficient, responsive, and unified academic schedule that meets the
needs of NOVA---s student population and supports the college---s
strategic enrollment goals. This position also initiates, manages,
and assesses academic services, practices, and policies that
address student needs, promote equity in their success, and
anticipate changes in the higher education landscape. The Vice
President and CAO originates and sustains secondary and university
partnerships and collaborates with the Vice President for Strategic
Partnerships and Workforce Innovation to achieve alignment between
the college---s technical education programs and industry needs.
This position reports to the President, serves as a member of the
Administrative Council, and works closely with colleagues in the
Virginia Community College System. Duties and Responsibilities: ---
Serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the college, advising the
President on all aspects of academic programs and college-wide
academic planning and implementation. --- Provides strategic and
operational leadership for NOVA---s instructional programs and
courses, assuring consistent quality of instructional programs and
academic program development in keeping with the college---s
commitment to excellence and equity. --- Recommends and administers
instructional and instructional-related policies, procedures and
mandates, working within NOVA---s shared governance on policy
development and implementation. --- Works with the Provosts, Vice
President for Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Innovation,
College Senate, academic disciplines/departments/pathways, and
institutional research to coordinate periodic academic program
review and the review, study, and development of curriculum to
support instructional excellence, effectiveness, responsiveness,
relevancy, and continuous improvement. --- Works in collaboration
with the President, Administrative Council, and key stakeholders to
bring about measurable improvements in NOVA---s key performance
indicators related to student success. --- Provides strategic
leadership and oversight for the college---s high school dual
enrollment activities, including the cultivation and maintenance of
effective partnerships with local school districts and leaders. ---
Provides strategic leadership and oversight for articulations with
other institutions of higher education, including initiating new
agreements and updating and/or sunsetting existing agreements as
needed. --- Provides strategic leadership and oversight for NOVA
Online. --- Provides oversight for NOVA---s accreditation liaisons
and activities and ensures the maintenance of records and
preparation of reports related to accreditation and any regulatory
boards. --- Provides strategic oversight for faculty development
activities led by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and
Learning. --- Supervises the development and timely publication of
the college schedule and catalog, ensuring that all pertinent
information dealing with federal, state, and college regulations
and all revisions are current and accurately presented. ---
Provides evidence-based academic input into the college---s
enrollment management and student services, working collaboratively
with the Vice President for Student Services. --- Represents
NOVA---s Academic Affairs and/or the College on various boards,
advisory committees, community action committees, and System and
Board committees. --- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of policy,
laws, codes, regulations, and pending legislation related to the
operations and activities of NOVA---s academic programs. Works with
internal stakeholders, including NOVA shared governance, to modify
programs, functions, and procedures, to ensure compliance with
local, state, and federal requirements. --- Supervises and
evaluates the performance of assigned staff; interviews and
participates in selecting employees; orients, trains, develops, and
counsels personnel according to established policies and
procedures. Minimum Qualifications: --- Earned doctorate degree
from a regionally accredited college or university --- Several
years full-time teaching experience in a credit curriculum at the
post-secondary level --- Significant years of experience with
progressive responsibilities as an academic administrator in a
community college and/or university setting --- Proficiency with
the use of data, evidence and analysis in decision-making ---
Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission
--- Commitment to equity and inclusion in student access and
outcomes --- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders to achieve
consensus Preferred Qualifications: --- Tenure or its system
equivalent (e.g., continuing or multi-year contract) within an
academic discipline at the post-secondary level --- Experience in
partnering with student services --- Experience with strategic
planning and program review --- Demonstrated support for faculty
and staff development --- Experience creating collaborative
partnerships with business, industry, and education partners
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: --- Knowledge of the
policies, procedures, and regulations at the institutional, state,
federal, and accreditation-level that impact postsecondary academic
--- Knowledge of the impact of technology on postsecondary learning
environments --- Skilled in forming effective partnerships and
collaborations across diverse stakeholders --- Skilled in
interpersonal communication and conflict resolution --- Ability to
synthesize and present data to varied audiences --- Ability to
analyze and make sound, informed, and well-considered
recommendations on complex issues --- Ability to work effectively
with a diverse workforce --- Ability to maintain confidentiality on
individual student and personnel matters --- Ability to maintain
and meet deadlines and deliver high quality work product when
managing multiple projects Operation of a State Vehicle: Occasional
