Electrical Engineer

This position is for an electrical design engineer responsible for developing scopes of work and overseeing design functions at one or more project sites for electrical distribution, renewable energy, power generation and resiliency microgrid systems. Position involves electrical system site investigation, preparation of preliminary electrical design documents (i.e. scopes of work, specifications, calculations, budgets and drawings), supporting subcontractor bid-walks, reviewing and coordinating with third party electrical construction documents (i.e. equipment submittals, electrical studies, specifications and construction drawings) and interacting with subcontractors, customers and stakeholders for firm fixed-price design/build proposals.|

Education / Certifications

• Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum)
• Fundamentals of Engineering competed
• Professional Engineers registration not required |(candidate should be actively pursuing licensure)

Required Technical Experience

• Low and medium voltage electrical distribution design (up to 13.8kV)
• Electrical equipment sizing and load calculations
• Emergency and Standby generator design
• Existing electrical system site surveys and documentation review
• Review of equipment submittals, design drawings and specifications
• Documentation quality control
• Power quality improvement, variable speed drives, energy efficient motors
• Technical proposal, subcontract and specification writing

Areas of Preferred Technical Experience

• Renewable energy system design and integration
• Understanding of protection relaying schemes and SCADA controls
• Understanding of microprocessor control and industrial control systems
• Knowledge of short circuit analysis, coordination studies and arc-flash analysis
• Familiarity with power quality, power factor and harmonic analysis
• Integration of distributed power generation, electrical distribution, smart grid controls, metering and communications systems

Required Career Experience / Qualifications

• 3-4 years (minimum) experience in electrical power distribution design
• Experience developing scopes of work, specifications for electrical distribution systems
• Familiar with National Electrical Code, NFPA and International Council Codes
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skill
• Construction site experience
• Willing to travel 25% of time

Experience Preferences

• Energy Savings Performance Contract experience
• Minimum two years in a design-build experience
• Microgrid and energy storage experience
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, E-TAP/SKM (or similar), Excel and Word
• Eligible to obtain security clearance and pass background investigations
